Japandroids (Vancouver, BC)

After playing hundreds of shows in more than 40 countries in support of their critically acclaimed 2012 album Celebration Rock, Japadroids’ long awaited new record, Near To The Wild Heart Of Life is out now. Written clandestinely throughout 2014 and 2015 in Vancouver, Toronto, New Orleans and Mexico City, the album is an inspiring, passionate burst of poetic rock and roll.

Cloud Nothings (Cleveland, OH)

Cloud Nothings was founded in a Cleveland basement, the one-man recording project of Dylan Baldi, an unassuming, then 18-year-old student of song with a remarkable ear for melody. Prolific from the start, Baldi’s early work was rough but immediate: crudely recorded, spring-loaded spasms of Buzzcocks-informed pop that quickly found an online following among the lo-fi-inclined.

The Courtneys (Vancouver, BC)

The Courtneys drift back to the sound of the early ’90s, drawing from strong influences including Teenage Fanclub, Pavement, Eddy Current Suppression Ring, and The Clean. Courtney Loove’s dreamy guitar riffs add a timeless powerpop element to the punk backbone formed by Sydney Koke’s driving basslines, while drummer/lead singer Jen Twynn Payne delivers heartfelt lyrics with a powerful vocal style. These components come together through a passionate collaborative songwriting process to deliver a special blend of fuzzy “artisanal grunge”.

Julie & The Wrong Guys (Toronto, ON)

In 2011, celebrated Juno-award winning songwriter Julie Doiron enlisted Mike Peters and Jaye Schwarzer—known best for their long-time tenure in Toronto’s metal/hardcore heavyweights Cancer Bats–to fill in some shows on drums and bass, inviting country-meets-punk troubadour Eamon McGrath to round out the sound on fuzzed-out guitar. Fast forward to 2017 and the debut record from this unlikely group is finally seeing the light of day.
